uperman has been ruling the Earth as a communist dictator since the death of his mentor Joseph Stalin in this “Else Worlds” story Superman Red Son. At last, he confronts with the reality of what he has done. By trying to rid the world of war and famine, he has unintentionally made everyone subject to his version of perfection.
Economic systems are ways of coordinating economies, but no system is perfect, even if run by Superman. They all involve some tradeoff between freedom and control. Superman realizes his is a world of fear and control imposed from the top, and at his core Superman, communist or not, doesn’t want that.
