Robin is trying to rescue his friends who have been changed into collectables by the Toy Master. In order to get Raven back, Robin’s collectables are pitted against the Toy Master’s collectables. Sadly for the Titans, the Toy Master has the Justice League. The Toy Master wins and begins gloating. Now Robin will have to try and rebuild his collection, making the Toy Master’s collection more valuable. Robin realizes that the collections only have value because other people want them. If Robin doesn’t want to spend the time or money collecting, then the value will go down. It is the Toy Master’s worst nightmare.
In his ruse to trick the Toy Master, Robin mentions that collecting toys is a waste of time and money. He is saying that there is an opportunity cost to focusing so intently on these products. While the Toy Master may think that the value of his collection will rise, this is only the case if other people value them. Toy Master has a very subjective view of value. Robin’s change of heart suggests that value is in the eye of the collector.
